What will Buteyko do for me?

After a Buteyko course you will be able to control your Asthma with much less medication. The following are some of the benefits you will experience.

1.  Participate in the activities of your choice. " I can now enjoy more situations, a night out for example, than I would have in the past." Paul Willoughby

2.  Less absence from work or school because of asthma symptoms. "We are grateful to Buteyko for seeing the quality of life improve so much for Clare. To see her enjoying schoolwork and free of tiredness and stress generated by asthma is wonderful." Catherine Sandbrook

3.  Be free of symptoms day and night, including sleeping through the night. "The improvement in my sleep through the knowledge that I gained at my Buteyko course was incredible. I now sleep, as I haven't done in years. It was worth every penny!" Paula Sargent

4.  Require less emergency visits to the hospital or doctors. "It has been wonderful for me. I only had one cold in the last year and it didn't even go to my chest. Before Buteyko I seemed to be ill most of the time. I had been in hospital twice in the weeks before starting the course and not since". Yvonne Benson

5.  Reduce the need for asthma medication. "Since completing the course in September 1996 I have not required my ventolin, even once". William Henderson

6.  Enjoy sport more. "When Benjamin completed the Buteyko course many people commented on the tremendous improvement in his rugby. We had thought that he was a bit frightened of the action but after Buteyko there was no holding him. We realise now that he had no breath and energy to keep up". Alison Gibb

7.  You are empowered. The Buteyko method has been excellent for me because I have lost the fear of having an asthma attack, I am now able to control my breathing". Bill Emery

I have found it extremely beneficial to have support whilst trying to reduce my use of inhalers and find the reduced breathing exercises help a great deal. Increased knowledge about asthma and the controlling drugs has been particularly useful.
Mary, Somerset

The program has been an excellent balance of theory and practice with lots of support and plenty of time for questions and explanation. I have learnt how to relax, to deal with anxiety and to control my asthma through a simple change of breathing. I shall tell everyone I know who has asthma about it - and some who have not, but could benefit anyway! Not many things come along to change your life, but this is certainly one of them.
